Full time Research Assistant position in the Bakkour Memory and Decision Lab at The University of Chicago
The Bakkour Memory and Decision Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago (PI: Akram Bakkour) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant/Lab Manager to join the lab.
The Memory and Decision lab is focused on understanding the cognitive and neural mechanisms by which relational memory guides and is influenced by decision making. To conduct our research, we use a combination of the tools of cognitive neuroscience; namely fMRI, eyetracking, computational modeling, and neuropsychological studies with patients that have known cognitive deficits (e.g., Amnesia, Parkinson’s Disease, Anorexia Nervosa). For more information about the lab, please visit: https://bakkourlab.uchicago.edu
The Research Assistant/Lab Manager will contribute to the lab both administratively and scientifically. This individual will help develop, maintain, and oversee compliance policies and protocols (IRBs), order lab/office supplies, recruit participants (including patients in coordination with clinical units), maintain participant records (e.g., consent forms, screening forms), maintain the lab website, schedule lab meetings, and perform other day-to-day lab management tasks. In addition to these administrative responsibilities, this individual will also conduct research under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral scholars, and/or graduate students in the lab. The Research Assistant will have the opportunity to conduct an independent project (which will involve conceptualization, data collection, analysis, presentation of results, writing, and paper submission). Other research responsibilities include training and assisting lab members with data collection and technical troubleshooting. This is a particularly exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a growing team where they are valued for their scientific as well as their managerial contribution. This position will provide useful training for individuals who are considering graduate school.
The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal. The start date is flexible.
